MONSTERS! (and other get of miscreation)

"From ghosties and ghoulies and long-leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night, may the good Lord preserve us."
-old Scottish prayer

Moral evaluations notwithstanding, there's no such thing as an ugly monster. Monsters may be macabre, grotesque, abhorrent-even blasphemous. But just plain old everyday ugly? Not a bit of it. Any decent Thing That Should Not Be ought to evoke all those esoteric words for 'unspeakably eldritch abomination' that apparently only writers like Lovecraft and Jane Austen* found a use for. That boldly said, I now leave the skittish townsfolk with a few lusus naturae to chase around with torches and pitchforks.

*You know I'm right...Sense And Sensibility? Mansfield Park? Who's not sleeping with the lights on after those chilling tomes? (just in case there were any English majors amongst the townsfolk)

Mage: The Ascension

For the better part of a decade, I had the considerable privilege of being among White Wolf's stable of artists for their World of Darkness line of RPGs. While Vampire is traditionally regarded as the sexiest of the line, my personal favorite as an illustrator was and still is Mage. When it came time to play, Vampire was an easier fit, but Mage afforded me much broader visual horizons in the studio. Of the traditons, I count myself a goggle-totin' AetherBoy. WeirdScience is simply where its at. Of the Conventions, it has to be Iteration-X. Just imagine the Autochthonian (Technocratic Horizon realm) cyberscape looking like Zero-One had SkyNet's love child.

Fortunately, Phil Brucato* developed a plethora of assignments that allowed me to flex my skills on a variety of subgenres and historical/mythological/ pop cultural hybridizations. The "creative file" for Mage was deep and typically had the best talents involved on it every step of the way.

Enough with the jibber-jabber. I'll be adding to this subgallery periodically. Enjoy.
